Timothy Marthand

Timothy Birendra Marthand is an international classical concert-pianist born in Hyderabad, India. Although he comes from a well known family of classical musicians his passion for music didn't occur until he was seventeen.

After his first notes at the piano Marthand immediately took on concerts, performing a Mozart concerto with the Hyderabad Philharmonic Orchestra. He has studied in Singapore, the United States and Europe and had masterclasses with legendary musicians such as Leon Fleisher, Fou Ts'Ong, Dimitry Bashkirov and William Grant Naboré. Marthand is appreciated as "poetic" and "a powerful force" not only for his performances but also for his pioneering work in classical music. He is also the only Indian in residence at the International Piano Foundation, Lake Como, Italy.

2019-20 marks the new edition of a concert series all across India. His performances intend not only to make classical music appreciated but also make it accessible and exciting to a new generation of Indians.

Apart from music Marthand is passionate about education and is often invited to give talks on creativity and learning. His project SOTA is a multifaceted music education movement that brings the highest caliber musicians to Hyderabad. SOTA also reaches underprivileged children in an effort to create a symphony orchestra.
